The Piano and the Flight Simulator

The Piano and the Flight Simulator

Ralph van Raat

In The Piano and the Flight Simulator, Ralph van Raat operates the flight simulator through playing the piano. “An experience in which images and sounds work together very nicely. At touchdown, time (45 minutes) appears to have flown by.” De Volkskrant

The public watches the simulator together with Ralph. As Ralph looks around him, images are projected on three large screens that show the audience not only the inside of the plane, but also the airspace in which he is flying. For the first time in his life, Ralph will be wearing a cap during a concert. The reason is that the cap contains the sensors that he uses to move the images. The sounds from the piano, Ralph’s conversations with ground control, and the sounds produced by the simulated aircraft are all part of a composition written by composer Florian Maier. The advanced technology of this interactive musical production is in the adept hands of music technologist Thomas Rutgers. A sensational show from music production house Intro in situ.
