Jesse Passenier, Reinier Baas & Codarts BigBand
How Flora and Fauna became Friends
Young Dutch composer Jesse Passenier, who recently received the Rogier van Otterloo Award, goes on an adventure with the “uncrowned king of contemporary Jazz” (Jazzism), guitarist Reinier Baas.
Together with the Codarts Big Band they dive headfirst into a fantasy world. A realm filled with mythical creatures, paradise gardens and magical mysteries. From a fearful flight to loving encounters, you can find it all during their joint journey in How Flora and Fauna became friends.
Jesse Passenier is well known for the arrangements he makes for his own Fluid Orchestra as well as for the world famous Metropole orchestra. It’s during projects with the Metropole Orchestra that peers Baas en Passenier met each other and the seeds for this special musical project were sown.
Reinier Baas is bandleader of The More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble, with whom he toured the Netherlands, Sweden, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. Baas received two Edisons in the category Jazz/World International.
The Codarts Big Band, containing the crème de la crème of the Rotterdam conservatory (CODARTS) shared the stage with internationally revered musicians like Gerard Presencer, Bobby Sanabria, Philip Catherine, Rick Margitza and Tommy Smith.
