Let yourself be amazed by an exciting performance by circusartist and brand new “Jonge Hond” (Young Dog) Michiel Deprez
A 25-year-old artist from Belgium, he graduated from the ”Ecole de Cirque de Bruxelles” as a circus-teacher in 2011 and in 2015 acquired a Bachelor Circus and Performance Art. His first contact with circus was relatively late, taught to juggle 3 balls and spin a diabolo at 15, it immediately became a passion. Some time after this he also became interested in dance, taking lessons in Gent and Brussels. This is when he started experimenting with movement and juggling.
Control and Observe
Working with objects is very natural for humans. We are programmed to try and grasp our environment in the best way we possibly can, to try and predict as precisely as possible what will happen around us. Juggling is trying to exert maximum control even to an absurd level, without gaining any practical advantage from it.
Things also have a voice of their own. To make this voice sound, sometimes you do have to let go, listen and look, without intervention.
In his work with objects, Michiel wants to control as well as observe. Somtimes his work leans towards juggling, at other times more towards sculpting or the initiation of chain reactions.
