Nevermind: Storksky & Limburgs Jeugdorkest
Zomerparkfeest Venlo 2016
On the 24th of September 1991 Nirvana’s Nevermind was released, an album made by three scrawny white teenagers from the north of the U.S. The album immediately exploded and formed the blueprint for a whole generation of teenagers during the nineties.
Alternative Rock becomes mainstream
It also signified the end of the eighties rock sound; Nevermind finished off excessively blow dried hair dews, glitter pants, squeaky voices and machismo.
Here was a badly dressed, moody man, singing about how his life was being ripped apart… and making you feel it without any shame. Alternative Rock turned mainstream. Nevermind sold 24 million copies worldwide. One of these ended up in the hands of Storksky-drummer Roy Moonen, who learned to play the drums on this straightforward album.
On the 24th of September Nevermind is turning 25. For Zomerparkfeest Venlo – held one month earlier – this was as good a reason as any to program the full album. Maastricht based band Storksky will be at the heart of the performance. The duo recently won prestigious pop prize Nu of Nooit. The band outclassed all of the competition and seams set for a national breakthrough. After having played the mainstage at Pinkpop (part of the prize) they have also already been booked by other festivals like Zwarte Cross.
Jesse Passenier, Storksky & LBM Youth Orchestra
Storksky will be performing the album together with the Limburg Youth Orchestra, which is comprised of the best young wind players from all of the Limburg based wind orchestras. In short, the best Limburg has on offer!
Intro Maastricht (productionhouse for contemporary sound art and performance), provides artist in residence Jesse Passenier, who will provide an orchestral reimagination of the full album, rescoring/composing the music, putting his signature mark on the project, thus bringing the production to the next level.
Passenier is a great talent and is known for his arranging work for the famous Metropole orchestra. He also grew up listening to Nevermind.
Renowned conductor Björn Bus will lead the LJO and Storksky through Passenier’s arrangements. Björn is a well known face in the wind music industry. He has won several prizes, most notably the bronze conducting baton during the international conductor’s competition of the World Music Contest in Kerkrade.
