First there was the book, now the soundtrack. On M, Aafke gives us a guided tour through the world of her debut novel M using songs and compositions.
An alternative version of the Netherlands in which a girl loses her colour because of a mysterious disease. Determined to get rid of the disease she decides to steal a radical act. M fans out effortlessly, from small confessions to dark electro, from hiphop to fugue.
Aafke Romeijn about M: “It’s become an emotionally loaded album. It’s the first time that I have had the opportunity to create and dictate everything by myself; from the beats to the string arrangements up to and including the final production. This is without question my most personal work yet because I was in total control of the final product. I was able to combine all of my passions: my background in classical music, melancholic character and love for samples. M is also my biggest work when looking at the production as a whole, but it’s very close to my heart, also because my loved ones play a crucial role in it: my parents and my sister played the wind parts and my husband played the guitar parts.”
