DAAN released “Simple” – the band’s first acoustic album – to great critical acclaim about 4 years ago.
The surprising formula featuring Daan on vocals, guitar and piano, Isolde Lasoen as centipede on drums, vibraphone, trumpet and vocals and Jean Francois Assy on 10 cello’s at the same time turned out to be a great success during the hundreds (!) of live concerts as well.
This intense adventure wet their appetite and led to the creation of “The Mess”. Even though the ingredients are the same, the record turned out completely different than “Simple” before it. More extravert, playful, wild, groovier, almost sexy even. The opener already shows you where the record is going; baroque, crazy with Daan in an energetic trip. Seldom have you heard Daan so exact and engaged, enjoying every moment and opening up like a flower, while swimming in a sea of arrangements that sound as though they could have been dreamt up in the seventies
