Musician and filmmaker Jochem Baelus (BE) lets us hear it can also be done another way.
Hairdryers powering harmonicas, twisted knitting needles, prepared combs and an assembly of drum and sewing machines are the instruments of choice, enhanced with Baelus’ raw guitar playing. Think ‘Suicide’, ‘Silver Apples’ and ‘Swans’.
With his band ‘Slumberland’ the starting point are mechanical installations which are turned into energetic and memorable songs. At Intro Jochem will be playing a solo set.
At the start of 2013 the LP ‘Slumberland by Slumberland’ was released on the experimental label “De ZesdeKolonne”. Already a year later he was invited to play as the support act to Tindersticks, King Dude and Parquet Courts. This year one of his tracks was featured on a compilation album by “Dymaxion Groove Records” (NY) alongside Dan Deacon and Silver Apples, amongst others.
Apart from his work as a musician Baelus also composes for contemporary dance and theatre performances.
