Pop or Noise
Not an interesting question for Rooie Waas. This trio from Amsterdam makes ‘songs’ with popstructure that rely heavily on rythm. Noise forms the basis. Melody is almost absent. Their homebuilt synthesizers are not there to please, but to disturb and disrupt. Texts consisting solely out of words, less than in a picturebook, spat out like a machinegun salvo.
After three albums of dadaistic noisepop Rooie Waas still doesn’t sound familiar. The band has only gotten more extreme. Was refused on VPRO’s 3 Voor 12 ‘Luisterpaal’.
