Two People Holding Hands

Tuesday 10 April 2018 / 20:30 / Intro, Maastricht

The members of Tjalling met each other at Eindhoven Rock City. Dany van Dorst (vocal), Lars Anthonissen (Bass), Tjalling de Leeuw (drums) and Jeroen van Vugt (guitar) were looking for a different way of aproaching and writing music. They were done with the “perfect 3:30 song. They came up with the concept of writing one long uninterrupted song.

At the end of 2015 they started writing said song which also became their first album. The album bears the name ‘Two People Holding Hands’ and consits of 1 song of 33 minutes in lenght. In this song you are taken for a ride through different phases. All seperate pieces making up  Two People Holding Hands were written chronologically and over an extended period of time. Because of this Tjalling can sound hard and rough at one moment in time and sweet and tender in other parts, these aspects can make the music feel strange but human at the same time.

For the recording of the album they locked themselves in for two days and two nights at Studio Bosrand together with engineer Wouter Mollen. During the writing of the material interesting new ways of packaging the live performance were also formed. They decided to team up with artist Levi van Huygevoort (Mchnry). for their album release show.

During this album release show in Stroomhuis in Eindhoven, Levi was given the opportunity to react to their music in real time by drawing on a big canvas with charcoal. The artworks produced during this evening became the coverartwork for the album.
