Pitch-Up: The Piano and the Flightsimulator 2.0
This is your pianist speakingWe now live 10 years later and technology has developed enormously, both the musical technology and the flight simulators, as well as the flying skills of Ralph, who has obtained licenses in recent years. The new possibilities, the successful formula and the need for a production with opportunities for the development of mid-career makers were the reason to discuss a new interpretation of the existing formula. We are investigating new possibilities for controlling the flight simulator via the piano, using VR, Artificial Intelligence and the development of new software. Also in this sequel, the notes of concert pianist and pilot Ralph van Raat are the commands for controlling an aeroplane. A new production is being developed with these familiar ingredients, with newly written compositions by Aart Strootman and Heather Pinkham, text by screenwriter Dirk van Pelt and new technology from Creative Coding Utrecht.
In 2013-2015 Intro in Situ developed The Piano and the Flight Simulator. In this performance, Ralph van Raat controlled a flight simulator via his grand piano, to a composition by Florian Magnus Maier. The technology of this interactive music production was in the hands of music technologist Thomas Rutgers. More than ten sold-out performances were played.
